October 2, 2025, SHD attended Seminar in Germany with Special topic “Labor migration: Perspectives, realities and global responsibilities” in the city of Wernigerode.
Events by Eine Welt Netzwerk Saxony-Anhalt eV (One World Network of the state of Saxony-Anhalt) organized, with funding from the Foundation Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and Banks Harzsparkasse, with the participation of Mrs. Stefanie Pötzsch, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and Mr. Thomas Balcerowski, Mayor of the Harz region.
In the context of Germany facing a serious labor shortage, 288,000 net migrations (Nettozuwanderung) are needed each year to meet human resource needs until 2040. This shows that migrant workers are not only an urgent need, but have become an indispensable resource for the modern German economy.

However, along with opportunities come many challenges in integration: language barriers, cultural differences, unfair working conditions, complicated administrative procedures, and especially the psychological pressures in daily life that international workers have to face.
In his speech, journalist Sascha Lübbe highlighted the exploitation and inequality that many migrant workers in Germany are suffering – stories that he clearly depicts in the book. “Ganz unten im System” (rough translation: The bottom layer of the system).

In the discussion session that SHD moderated with the topic “Welcoming or overcoming obstacles? Opportunities and challenges for migrant workers in Germany“, We and the delegates had in-depth discussions about Specific difficulties of foreign workers in Germany – from language barriers, cultural differences, to administrative processes and psychological challenges in daily life.

From there, the group agreed to propose practical actions at three levels.: Policy – Society – Business, to improve living and working conditions for international workers.
For SHD, attending this conference in Germany is of special importance. This is not only an opportunity for us to listen and share, but also to connect and cooperate with partners in Germany, towards the goal of promoting successful and humane integration for Vietnamese workers and students.
